Established in 1967 and still with the same family name, Radio Cabs is the oldest and biggest taxi firm in the Bridgend area. Our system is operated mainly by owner drivers who purchase a vehicle, license it and a taxi and then for a fixed weekly fee sub contract taxi fares from Radio Cabs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Anyone wishing to work for us can be assured of a secure future. Our first priority is to give owner-drivers every opportunity to be successful in developing their own business within ours. Secondly we concern ourselves with their continued security and peace of mind. All our operational systems have fail safe back ups, we even have a separate office away from the town which is in standby mode and can be made fully operational within four hours should a disaster befall our main office. We have survived two long recessions when up to three million people nationwide were unemployed. We have a very strong foundation and an excellent customer base. You can rest assured your livelihood is safe in our hands.

The fact you are reading this page means you interested in working with Radio cabs. Before you can do anything you mush be licensed to drive a taxi, if you are not then you need to make an application through the local Council Licensing office.

Once you are licensed and ready to join us you have the following options.

Option One

Drive on commission for one of our owner-drivers, this can be a very lucrative and comfortable way of making a living. We can match you with an owner-driver to get you as little or as many hours as you may wish to work. The owner pays for all running expenses including fuel.

Option Two

Some of our owner-drivers now operate several vehicles within our system. They lease them out on a full lease or half lease basis, which is either days or evening only. On a half lease the taxi is returned to base each day, or a full lease you keep the taxi all the time. Either way you simply pay your agreed lease payment and put fuel in, all other expenses are covered in the lease payment. When we use the term lease you would generally expect to sign a contact but none of our owners insist on this and it’s very much a gentleman’s agreement between two parties, normally the lease being terminated by one months notice. The half lease is a very good scheme for persons who wish to work days or evenings only.

Option Three

Purchase your own vehicle and become an owner-driver. You have the flexibility of working whatever hours suit you, all the expenses are yours but so are the profits. In the future you may purchase more than one vehicle, hire and fire your own drivers, make the cars work hard and enjoy the returns.

There is an opportunity to build yourself a substantial business within our business; if you are a hard working, ambitions person, the rewards can be significant.
